Freestanding Palisade Fence. This is the most popular fence solution because it is secure, rigid, strong and cost effective and you can see through from the street view. It is not easy to climb over, especially when it has very sharp edges, and it make the risk higher for the intruder to hurt himself. Here you can order exact sizes and there are no wastage and cutting of standard panels which saves a lot of money.
Palisade Fence with walls. This is also a popular type of solution but it needs more security after installation because the walls become an easy entry point for intruders - so electric fencing on top of the walls will then serve as additional measure and the cost of this exercise without the additional electric fencing can be up to 3 times more expensive than Freestanding Palisade Fencing.
Solid brick Walls. This option is for maximum privacy but in case of security it can be quite dangerous when nobody can see from the street view and intruders can do whatever they like without anybody seeing them. This also needs additional security like electric fencing and cameras to secure your property better. But once they get into the property from another source like your gate or from a neighbor it is still very risky. This option also is very expensive.
Weldmesh Fencing. This become a very popular option for industrial and commercial applications and some people also install it at their homes. The panels comes in standard sizes and you might have some wastage and you need to make sure it is purchased from a reputable supplier because up to 70% of these fencing are imported and carry no warranties. The other challenge is the gates because it can be sometimes quite expensive. It however also need additional security on top.
Do it yourself and save money. This is not such a difficult operation and you can do it yourself of hire a handyman to do the most complicated parts of the installation. The planting of the posts and the installation of the track of the sliding gate are the most complicated parts of the installation. The rest is very straightforward and easy. It need some one who understands plumb and level and who can plant posts in a 100% straight line. This is the basis of your fence and need to be right to ensure the success of your fence.
Get an Installer. We have clients who install fencing every day in various areas of the country and it will be wise to choose one of them if you feel that DIY will not work for you. They however are working on their own and you can either order the fence directly from them and they charge you for the material and labour or you order your fence from us and pay them for the installation. The secret here is that they need to do the measurements so there is no dispute about sizes when he install. If he make a mistake it will be deducted from his costs.
Look out for the following. Some installers and fencing contractors quote you just one price for the whole job, insist on a full breakdown, some of them include costs that should not be your problem. We have standard installation costs indications on our website, please check it out and compare it with their prices. Our costs does not however includes additional work like removal of old fencing, removal of plants and trees or underground rocks or very hard soil conditions. That must be quoted separately by the installer before the installation commence.
Do I need plans. Yes you do, and do not let anybody tell you otherwise, our laws are clear and it states that anything you build at your property that is higher than 1.2m must have approved plans from your municipality. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! The municipality can give you heavy fines and also force you to remove the fence. Also make sure you have the pegs of the municipality and that you are not overstep the borderline of your property. If you don't know where it is you can ask the Municipality to give you a name of a contractor who come out and mark the borders clearly. Make sure you also do not overstep the height rules in your area, most areas you need permission to go higher than 2.1m. Do not just follow the lines of your neighbors that might be over the border lines and you will unfortunately be penalised for it. Ignorance of the law is NO excuse.
